About the HousingCare Website

HousingCare.org is an exciting venture, originally ‘code-named’ Housing Options for Older People Online. Through it, EAC aims to take a lead role in working with a range of partners to improve housing options for all older people, with a particular focus on developing and making accessible on-line services.

Older people can find it difficult to get information about the range of housing available to them, or about services that can help them remain at home and maintain their independence.  Sometimes this is because the information available doesn’t address the specific needs or aspirations of particular individuals or groups.  Sometimes it is because family members, carers and professionals they come into contact with are themselves ignorant about what is available. Either way, it is EAC’s mission to improve matters, to help ensure that all older people have access to the information and advice they need to make their own decisions about their housing, support or care.

In HousingCare.org, EAC aims to:

  • bring together information from several organisations in one place, and
  • provide people who also want advice with a clear pointer to the best advisory service to help them in their decision-making.

HousingCare.org is in fact 3 websites in one.  Its audiences are:

  • Individuals and their families and carers;
  • Advisors – all those professionals and volunteers who work with older people;
  • Providers – of housing and care or support services to older people.

EAC aims to involve each of its 3 audiences in building and improving HousingCare.org, and in promoting it:

  • feedback from users is invited throughout the site
  • forums of older people monitor its development on a regular basis;
  • meetings are held regularly with partner advisory agencies, housing providers and care providers.

Early work on HousingCare.org was strongly supported and generously funded by The Housing Corporation, through its Innovation & Good Practice Grants Programme.  Since April 2004 however, HousingCare.org must begin to finance itself, and we are grateful to a growing number of organisations that have shown themselves willing to provide sponsorship without impinging in any way on the site’s independence and integrity.

Details of all our funders, sponsors, supporters and partners in HousingCare.org can be found in the credits section of HousingCare.org.
