Mervyn Kohler (Chair)
Mervyn is Special Adviser at Age UK, and former Head of Public Affairs at Help the Aged, where his original role was to manage the Charity's links with Parliament, Government and the outside world, and to develop its policy position. As the political and social agenda involving older people has mushroomed, he has increasingly focussed on income and financial issues (which underpins so much of the well-being of older people), but he retains an overview of the broad policy field. This, with his twenty-plus years of long service, means he plays a part too as the public face of the Charity, at conferences, seminars and in the media. He is, and has been, on the trustee board of a number of charities and on several public bodies, and currently serves on the Fuel Poverty Advisory Group.

Anne Duffield
Anne is Head of Housing Access at Northwards Housing in Manchester where she has pioneered a housing options advice service for older people in the north of the city, making use of EAC's 'HOOP' (Housing Options for Older People) questionnaire tool. Anne is also Chair of the Governing Body of a local primary school, a Local Authority Councillor and a Board member of Trafford Housing Trust. Prior to joining Northwards she held management positions in a number of other housing associations and a local authority.

Christopher Manthorp
Chris Manthorp is an independent consultant on older age, currently working in project management for Barchester Healthcare. He began his career as a psychiatric nurse, moving into residential care for people with dementia because he felt change was vital and easier to achieve. He was a founding member of the Bradford Dementia Group. He has line managed residential care, day care, home care and sheltered housing for the private, statutory and voluntary sectors and has also worked as a head of commissioning and project manager. He lectures frequently, is a freelance journalist and wrote regular articles and columns for Guardian Society and Caring Business on issues affecting older people. He co-wrote the award winning ‘Communication and Dementia’, is involved in associated research work and is currently writing ‘The Rough Guide to Ageing’. He is a board member for the Joseph Rowntree ‘Better Life’ project.

Ann Netten
Ann is Professor of Social Welfare at the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent and an Associate Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research (SSCR). Her research interests include developing theoretically based but pragmatic approaches to the measurement of outcome, costs and quality in social care, housing and care of older people and economic evaluation of social welfare interventions. Her particular interest is in the ongoing development and use in practice of the Adult Social Care Outcomes Toolkit (ASCOT).

Steve Ongeri
Steve is a consultant who is an experienced researcher and policy maker at senior levels. His recent work includes a book on design for independent living for older people and he was one of team that produced a guide to the role of small housing associations. In many years working at the Housing Corporation, he was responsible for Corporation’s work on ageing, the countryside, disability and planning.
