EAC Housing Options database – next steps

EAC's Housing Options database covers 25,000 housing schemes for older people, and includes details of their location, property types & sizes, services provided, communal facilities, activities and cost.

However, it cannot, at present, give prospective residents a real feel for how it would be to live there.  To start remedying this, we would like to work with two or three providers or Scheme Managers to explore adding new audio-visual features to the presentation of their schemes.  Possibilities include:

  1. a short video of the scheme itself – or activities, people, events within it
  2. additional descriptive text provided by a residents group or association
  3. timetable of social events; menus where schemes provide meals
  4. a copy of a brochure about the scheme
  5. additional photos of the neighbourhood – particularly view from front door, nearest town / shops, local places of interest, etc.
  6. sound recordings – of residents – about their decision to move to sheltered housing, and how it is living there – both good and difficult things
  7. any reports produced by lay / independent reviewers or assessors
  8. architects’ drawings & site plans; any reviews of the scheme when newly built
  9. link to any website run by residents
  10. for leasehold schemes, scheme accounts, copy of lease, history of managers (where these have changed), history of service charges
  11. a discussion or Q & A forum for prospective residents to put questions to Scheme Manager / Warden or residents

To discuss any or all of these ideas with us, please contact John Galvin, EAC Director (Tel. 020 7820 7867; Email. john.galvin@eac.org.uk)
